Sunshine Circle - Speech Therapy Services

Does your child need speech therapy?

Determining if your child needs speech therapy depends on various factors such as their age, developmental stage, and specific speech concerns. Here are some signs that may indicate your child could benefit from speech therapy:

  1. Late speech development: If your child is significantly behind their peers in speech milestones, such as not babbling by 12 months or not saying single words by 18 months, it might be a concern.
  2. Difficulty being understood: If others have trouble understanding your child's speech, especially by age 3 or 4 when they should be mostly intelligible to strangers, it could indicate a need for therapy.
  3. Limited vocabulary: If your child has a restricted vocabulary for their age or has difficulty learning new words, this might be a sign of a language delay.
  4. Speech sound errors: Articulation errors that persist past a certain age, such as substituting one sound for another (e.g., saying "wabbit" for "rabbit") or difficulty producing certain sounds, could indicate a need for therapy.
  5. Stuttering: If your child's speech is characterized by frequent repetitions, prolongations, or blocks of sounds or words, they might benefit from speech therapy.
  6. Difficulty with language comprehension: If your child has trouble understanding spoken language, following directions, or answering questions appropriately for their age, it could be a red flag.

If you notice any of these signs or have concerns about your child's speech and language development, give us a call. Your child may be a great candidate for a Little Learners Group, or may do best with private therapy. Early intervention is often key in addressing speech and language difficulties effectively.
